SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANTS
High Water Table Sewage System
Case study overview
Project Introduction
This case study highlights a unique project involving a high water table sewage system installation. The challenge was to replace an old septic tank that had failed at a site near a river, where the water table was extremely high. The property owners reached out to us through our website, and we were contacted to provide a tailored solution that would meet both the environmental concerns and technical requirements of the project.
Our sales area manager Barry Hodden worked closely with Willowmead Developments on this project and a carefully considered plan was devised to install a high water table sewage system that was both functional and sensitive to the natural surroundings.

THE CHALLENGE
The primary challenge in this project was the replacement of a failed septic tank system. The property was located next to a river, which created an extremely high water table. This condition significantly impacted the feasibility of traditional septic tank systems and required an innovative approach to ensure that the new system could function properly without risking contamination of the water table.
Given the high water table, we had to consider how best to install the sewage system while ensuring that a concrete structure could set adequately. Additionally, there were concerns from the property owner about disturbing the natural environment, particularly the garden area. This called for a solution that minimised disruption while still meeting the required standards.
The Installation
The solution we implemented involved the installation of a Novo UK6 system with an integrated pumped outlet. This was the ideal product for the project as it offered the necessary pumping capacity to handle the sewage effectively, even under the constraints of the high water table.
To accommodate the high water table and ensure that the system could be installed without risk of immediate flooding or compromising the installation, we used a bespoke steel shutter box. This allowed us to create a contained environment for the concrete to cure properly before the system could be put into operation. The shutter box was custom-built to address the unique conditions of the site and provided the perfect solution for stabilising the installation process.
TRICEL SOLUTION
Tricel’s Novo UK6 with an integrated pumped outlet was the cornerstone of the solution. This system was specifically chosen because it could handle the challenges posed by the high water table sewage conditions. The pump outlet ensures that any sewage is moved effectively, even in conditions where gravity alone wouldn’t suffice.
The Feedback
The homeowner, expressed their satisfaction with the project, noting that while they had concerns about disturbing the garden area. They were particularly impressed with the way the installation was planned to minimise the impact on the environment. They emphasised that the work, while essential, was executed in a way that respected the natural surroundings and ensured the long-term functionality of the high water table sewage system.
