Septic Tank Wales - Steep Site Installation

This septic tank Wales project was completed on a residential property overlooking the Menai Strait in Anglesey. The client required a reliable and compliant wastewater treatment system suitable for a sensitive and steeply sloped site. Due to the challenging terrain and environmental constraints, this installation was far from standard and required expert planning, coordination, and engineering design.

Our sales area manager Stuart Goulding worked closely with Hefin Thomas Contractors to deliver a tailored and compliant solution for this specialised project.

The Challenge

The project presented several unique challenges. The property was situated on a very steep back garden, within a highly sensitive environmental area near the Menai Strait. Traditional underground septic systems were not feasible due to ground instability and limited space.

Additionally, because the installation discharged to water, it had to comply with strict environmental and building regulations. To complicate matters further, no similar installation had ever been attempted before in Wales, making this a first-of-its-kind project – a milestone achievement in the evolution of septic tank Wales solutions.

Installation

Installer Hefin Thomas took a hands-on approach to ensure precision and safety throughout. Before beginning on-site work, Hefin visited the manufacturer’s office to collaborate with the Tricel technical team in designing and building a bespoke unit specifically suited for the terrain and discharge requirements.

The septic unit was constructed on site and installed above ground, enclosed within an engineered compound developed in consultation with local building control. The installation phase lasted three weeks, forming part of a 12-month implementation period that included design, approvals, and build planning.

Final result

The installation was successfully completed, fully approved, and signed off by building control.
The client was extremely pleased with the outcome, noting the team’s professionalism, communication, and attention to detail.

This project stands out as a landmark installation for septic tank Wales systems – demonstrating that even the most complex and sensitive sites can be successfully serviced with the right expertise, planning, and innovation.
