This residential project in Kent required a fully compliant and efficient replacement for an ageing brick-built septic tank. With new environmental standards and the customer experiencing system failure, an upgraded sewage treatment solution was essential. KD Drainage already familiar with our SMC-structured tank range through in-office demonstrations and product samples, selected our UK8 pumped sewage treatment tank for the installation.
The Challenge
The existing brick-built septic tank was discharging directly to ground, a method no longer compliant with current regulations. Before choosing a replacement system, KD Drainage conducted percolation tests to determine whether a standard drainage field could be used.
However, the percolation tests failed, meaning a conventional soakaway was not viable. This left the homeowner needing an engineered solution that would ensure proper treatment and dispersal of effluent while meeting all legal requirements.
Installation
The complete installation took two weeks, during which KD Drainage:
- Removed the existing brick-built septic tank
- Installed the UK8 pumped sewage treatment tank
- Constructed the engineered drainage mound to accommodate poor percolation conditions
- Commissioned and tested the full system to ensure optimal performance
The engineered mound and UK8 tank worked together to provide a compliant and long-term sewage treatment solution for the customer.
Final result
The homeowner now benefits from a fully compliant, efficient, and environmentally responsible sewage treatment system tailored to challenging ground conditions. The drainage mound and UK8 pumped tank combination resolved all issues caused by the failed percolation test.
