- April 2, 2026
If you’re building, renovating, or upgrading a home without access to mains drainage, wastewater treatment can feel like a big unknown.
The good news is that even when ground conditions are difficult, a well‑planned installation can be straightforward — with the right system and the right approach.
In this blog, we’re sharing two Tricel Novo installations completed with Trafalgar Projects in Cumbria:
- South Lakes: a 16‑person Tricel Novo installation supporting multiple properties
- Endmoor: three Tricel Novo installations (3–8 person) positioned close together, with groundwater challenges
Both projects faced real‑world site constraints — rock, tight working areas, and rising groundwater — yet the outcome was reliable, efficient, and built for long‑term peace of mind.
Project Overview: Why Tricel Novo?
These sites required a sewage treatment solution that could deliver:
- Appropriate capacity for each property (or group of properties)
- Strong installation practicality in challenging ground
- A tidy, future proof drainage strategy that keeps ongoing site management simple

South Lakes — 16 Person Tricel Novo Installation
The challenge: rock excavation on a site new to treatment
South Lakes required a large 16‑person Tricel Novo unit serving multiple properties. As the site had never had a treatment system before, the installation needed careful set out and planning from day one.
Ground conditions were the biggest hurdle: excavation involved breaking out rock before the tank could be positioned.
The result: up and running in just 5 days
Despite the tough ground, the system was installed and operational in just five days — showing how a large Tricel Novo installation can still be delivered quickly when the groundwork and equipment are right.
Installation 2: Endmoor

Endmoor — Three Tricel Novo Installations (3–8 Person)
The challenge: tight spacing + rising water table
At Endmoor, the scope included:
- Two back‑to‑back Tricel Novo installations for two separate properties within the project
- A third Tricel Novo installation for a neighbouring property
With tanks positioned close together and a rising water table to contend with, sequencing and timing were critical to keep everything safe, stable, and efficient.
The solution: the right equipment + a simpler drainage approach
The correct lifting and installation equipment helped ensure the tanks were set accurately and pipework completed smoothly — even with groundwater pressure increasing.
All three installations were later joined into the same drainage system, helping keep the wider layout clean and simple.
Learnings from These Tricel Novo Installations
These two Cumbria projects highlight three reassuring points for anyone planning a home build, renovation, or rural upgrade:
- Challenging ground doesn’t have to derail your project
Rock, groundwater, and restricted working areas are common — and manageable.
- Efficient installs are possible without compromise
With good planning and the right kit, even a large system can be delivered quickly.
- A neat drainage plan makes life easier later
Joining systems sensibly (where appropriate) and planning pipe routes carefully reduces future complexity.

FAQs
Do I need a larger Tricel Novo system for multiple properties?
If more than one home will connect to one system, correct sizing is essential and depends on occupancy and expected usage.
Can a Tricel Novo installation be done in rocky ground?
Yes — rock can increase excavation effort, but the right methods and equipment make installation achievable.
What if my site has a high water table?
Rising groundwater can complicate excavation. Experienced installers can manage this with good planning and the correct approach on site.
