THE CHALLENGE

The Meadowfield Caravan Park at Brittas Bay

A commercial wastewater treatment plant for the caravan park was needed to allow different flows throughout the year during peaks and off-peaks.

As well as looking for a system which was economical (with electricity consumption) and easy to maintain, the customer also wanted a system that fit his budget.

Last but not least, we had a limited window of opportunity to have this system manufactured and installed when the caravan park was closed.

TRICEL SOLUTION

How did Tricel help?

This project was completed in collaboration with Bluestream. With over 30 years of experience in sewage treatment plants, Bluestream is an Irish-owned and family-run business.

In collaboration with Bluestream and the customer, Tricel designed a bespoke system for them. We offered various layout options to suit the customer’s green family-orientated grounds.

All the electrics and components were designed to be housed inside the Mars unit, eliminating the need for additional control panels and auxiliary units above the ground.

In addition, we explained how this commercial sewage treatment system works.

Equipment supplied and installed

Our Commercial Wastewater Treatment plant – Maxus 88M600 system met the requirements for this caravan site’s commercial sewage treatment plant in Wicklow, included:

  • 2x Fortis septic tanks of 10,800L (6 rings) as settlement tanks
  • 1x combined settlement and buffer tank
  • 1x Mars 6000 treatment unit

Tricel Maxus utilizes highly effective (Submerged Aerated Filter) SAF technology to treat wastewater in 4 stages.

Maxus treatment stages

Running efficiency

Tricel Maxus commercial wastewater treatment is suitable for seasonal or constant loads. The control panel automatically adjusts as incoming loads increase to ensure optimal performance.

In the buffer tank, the partially treated wastewater from the settlement tanks (1 above) (Fortis septic tanks) enters.

Inside the buffer tank (2 above), there are two pumps whose role is to even out the flow, thanks to floats and a timer. Indeed, the floats inside the buffer tank send a signal to the control panel, and in turn, the control panel send a signal to the air blowers to ramp up or down based on actual flow.

It reduces pump and air blower operating costs (electricity) and extends their lives.

Following the buffer tank, the wastewater is pumped into the treatment plant (3 above) and clarifier (4 above).

Versatile technology which can adapt to different loadings or effluent strengths.

With the Tricel Maxus, we can find suitable options for everything. Indeed, thanks to its flexible design, we can add more treatment zones and clarifiers to ensure the treated effluent meets the site requirements (such as low BOD, nitrogen, phosphorus or even E-coli).

The Feedback

We could complete the project on time despite having a limited time to design and manufacture it during the off period. Despite the challenges, it was completed. Tricel took one week to install two Tricel Maxus sewage treatment units and one Tricel Mars unit, including commissioning.

As a result of the installation of the Tricel Maxus commercial wastewater treatment unit and the Mars unit, the customer was delighted with the system; the units have left a small footprint on the grass, which is ideal for families. Furthermore, the new system is much quieter than the previous one, which used to make a lot of noise and disturbed families.

“We would like to thank all at Tricel for all help and support we received from beginning to end. What was a very confusing project for us was made simple and seamless, thank you”
